Social Media Platforms
I think that different social media
platforms are suited for different purposes. There are 3 main platforms that
automatically come to mind: Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. I have found
these to be the most popularly used platforms for business and personal use.
Each platform is used differently and I have found Instagram and Facebook to be
my personal favorites.
For
personal use, I have found I have found Instagram to be the best platform. I do
agree that Instagram can be used for business however, in my own business we
have strayed away from this platform because it doesn’t necessarily work well
for every form of business. Instagram is geared towards photography rather than
being largely informative. Therefore, I have found it to be great for personal
use. Often, a simple photo can relay what the message you are trying to
portray. For example, my personal Instagram showcases Disney. I have included
the photo shown above to demonstrate what my personal Instagram looks like. I would use something fun and upbeat to show my personality thorough out the page and I attempt to follow a certain pattern in order to create a visually appealing aesthetic. However, in the business world, this type of post may not always work.
When it
comes to business I have found Facebook to be a largely successful platform.
There is so much information one can take from a business Facebook account. You
can view posts from the company, videos, photos, and further information. Once
can find out the business’ hours, location, how many people have visited,
directions, and even see reviews. Reviews are a large part of online reputation
management and it allows us to get a birds-eye view into the business. It is
important that business Facebook accounts are managed effectively and often to
ensure that all information is up to date. I know that Twitter has become
recently relevant in the business world. I think this can be used as a great
platform to
respond to customers however, it does not house the same amount of
information you would be able to access through Facebook. Therefore, I believe
Facebook is the best platform for business.
Going
back to Instagram, I think this is a platform that has the opportunity to work
for business and personal use, when effectively leveraged. For example, on my
Disney Instagram account I am a “brand representative” for numerous small
shops. These shops will send me free items such as t-shirts and other Disney
goodies and in exchange I post about them on my Instagram. This works well for
a lot of the smaller boutiques and Etsy shops. I think Instagram can be a great
site to advertise on if you can find this audience on the site. However, I have
had trouble being able to use Instagram for my current job because it can be
difficult to find an audience who would like to follow a property management
company on Instagram. One of the challenges I have faced as the Social Media
Manager has been what content to post on a business Instagram account of this
type. This is something I hope to improve in. All of this goes to show that
Instagram can be effectively used for business when the right audience is being
reached.
Hey Tiffany,
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with your statements about Facebook and Instagram. In my opinion they're the most popular platforms on social media out of pretty much everyone I know everyone has at least on of them, if not both. I also agree with your statements on the differences between the two. I can see how one would struggle on Instagram if the business they were trying to promote wasn't something one could easily grab someones attention with.
